One of the most unexpected phenomena that we encountered in our 2-week visit to La Condesa is how many dogs, of all sizes and all breeds (& always on leashes!) there were. In our previous visits to Mexico, we would see a random dog here or there, but never in these numbers & never on a leash. In La Condesa and La Roma, to a lesser extent, there were dogs on leashes everywhere! In fact, most of the stores and restaurants have dog water stations out front, even the local 7-Eleven. There is a whole economy revolving around dogs in La Condesa. Professional dog walkers is a big industry there. Additionally, there are lots of subsidiary businesses, like more veterinarian offices and pet hospitals than I have ever seen in a neighborhood, as well as shops where you can buy pet toys and pet sweaters, groomers, & pet supply shops. We even saw a Pet Hotel, where you could board your dog. There was an Ice Cream shop for dogs in our neighborhood. I felt like I was in New York City. I am not sure how the dog craze came to be in La Condesa...perhaps the ex-pats and foreigners started it, but it has certainly caught on!

Love the Aussies of course!
